It is thanks to democracy that people can have lives of autonomy, freedom and dignity.

Under democratic governance, your chances are better than otherwise that you can live in prosperity and social order and that your country can be at peace.

I recently read your essay re Russia’s behavior, In an essay focused upon Orwell’s 1984, I suggested that Russia might be the modern “Eurasia,” China the modern “Eastasia,” the Atlantic alliance the modern “Oceania,” and because Orwell wrote that the full adoption of Newspeak won’t be complete until 2050, the future is, well, the future with all the speculation and uncertainty attendant. Being retired university faculty member and military intelligence officer, I thought your essay was a refreshing addition to current discussions regarding realistic relations among sovereign nations. Bravo!
